Yvonne Briscoe
Yvonne is the President of Baytown Habitat for Humanity. She is currently a City Planner for the City of La Porte. As the City Planner, Yvonne is responsible for comprehensive and other subsidiary plans, subdivision and zoning ordinances. She assists developers, citizens, and business owners with interpretation of codes, planning of projects and activities. Amongst her past roles, Yvonne was a Planner for the City of Baytown from 2017 to 2021, and the City of Dickinson from 2021 to 2024. Her responsibilities included investigating, tracking and updating citizens on zoning complaints. Her understanding of City ordinances and codes; and her connections within the community are instrumental to the success of Baytown Habitat for Humanity.
Yvonne joined the Baytown Habitat for Humanity Board of Directors in October 2021. She holds a BSc Geography: Urban and Regional Planning, Political Communication from Texas State University.
Jared Arend
Jared Arend, the Vice President of Baytown Habitat for Humanity, is an Electrical Engineer, who is currently an Instrument and Controls Engineer for ExxonMobil. Jared worked for LyondellBasell before joining ExxonMobil, where he held various positions in their different plants. He is an advocate of best engineering practices as a fundamental to achieving our organizational goals as Baytown Habitat for Humanity. One such goal is to achieve an energy efficient home, which will be sustainable to the homeowners in the long run. Jared works effectively with cross-functional teams within the Baytown Habitat board, providing technical insights on energy efficiency and sustainability. He volunteers from time to time at the construction site, and fits right in, as in his free time, he loves to woodwork in his garage!
Jared has been on board since the beginning of 2022. He holds a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Sheila Parker
Treasurer
Sheila Parker is a Vice President for Capital Bank, serving as their Baytown Banking Center Manager. She has been in banking since 1993 and has worked for Capital Bank over the last 17 years. Sheila brings financial knowledge, networking abilities, and strategic thinking to the Habitat board, supporting its mission of affordable housing and community development. Her presence on the board enhances Baytown Habitat for Humanity’s visibility, attracting volunteers, and fostering partnerships with other organizations. Being a Vice President of one of the renowned banks in Baytown, Sheila has strong connections with local businesses and individuals, and can leverage these relationships to secure donations, sponsorships, and grants for the organization’s projects. Her experience in donor relations enhances our fundraising efforts.
Sheila is a member of the Highlands Rotary Club, plays volleyball with Special Olympics, and has served her community through her past involvement with Baytown Junior Forum. She has been on the board since 2019 and currently serves as the Treasurer.
Kenya Fanus
Kenya Fanus is a dedicated real estate broker and CEO of her real estate brokerage company, bringing over 10 years of industry experience. She holds certifications as a Certified Negotiation Expert, Seller’s Representative Specialist, and Accredited Buyer’s Representative, ensuring a stress-free home buying or selling process.
With a strong desire to give back to her community, Kenya, actively works with Baytown Habitat for Humanity. As a member of the Baytown Habitat for Humanity Board since 2019, she supports first-time homebuyers with orientation and counseling, helping them develop healthy spending habits and understand the homeownership process. Seeing families obtain affordable homes is a pivotal moment for her.
Kenya uses her real estate expertise to assist Habitat homebuyers in confidently navigating the complexities of purchasing a home. She serves on various committees for the organization, including fundraising and homeowner support, and is the chairperson for Homeowner Selection. Additionally, her family generously donates electrical labor and supplies for homes being built for families.
Kenya has been on the Baytown Habitat for Humanity Board since 2019. She holds Business Administration and Management from University of the Virgin Islands and Paralegal degree from LEE College.
John Belk
John Belk is a leader in power plant management, safety, and training, with over forty years’ experience in power plant operations and management. He is currently the owner of a consulting company specializing in plant assessments, leadership coaching and training. John brings valuable expertise to the organization, including process improvement, policy development, organizational development, and grant writing support. His leadership, change management and best practice implementation skills are fundamental to the survival of Baytown Habitat for Humanity.
He enjoys woodworking in his home shop and is especially fond of working each weekend with the “Friday Crew” at Baytown Habitat for Humanity. John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from LeTourneau University.
Wendy Vola
Wendy Vola is a private consultant and an Adjunct Professor in Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) at Lee College. From her 30+ years of experience in Risk Assessment/EHS, Wendy contributes a wealth of knowledge relevant to Baytown Habitat for Humanity. She provides guidance so that Habitat's volunteers and policies at construction sites prioritize quality and safety, thereby reducing accidents and injuries. Having served for many years with both the City of Baytown and Chambers County, Wendy’s familiarity with local regulations helps to ensure our projects comply with applicable requirements.
As a licensed EMT and Fire Safety Inspector, her public service background is invaluable as the organization leverages relationships with local authorities, emergency services, and organizations to benefit Habitat. Wendy and her husband spent 15 years working at previous Habitat construction sites. These days, she shares her expertise in enhancing our safety culture, risk management, and community impact.
She recently served as the Habitat Board Vice President and has been a Board Member since 2019. Wendy holds a Master of Public Administration degree in Environmental Science from American Military University, and an ASP designation from the national Board of Certified Safety Professionals.
Christopher Hazen
Chris works for Covestro LLC as the Vice President for Health, Safety and Environmental at the Baytown, Texas facility. He has over 25 years’ experience in chemical manufacturing, with expertise within HES and site manufacturing processes. Chris also has over 15 years of management experience at varying levels within Covestro, in the United States, Germany and Mexico. Prior to working in Baytown, he was most recently in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Covestro has their North American headquarters.
As a non-profit, Baytown Habitat for Humanity benefits significantly from Chris’s expertise in safety and health, insurance processes, worker's compensation and security knowledge. His international experience also brings different insights in the organization’s way of thinking and operation.
Chris holds a BSc in Chemical Engineering from Ohio University and a Master of Engineering in Chemical Engineering from the University of Virginia. He joined the Baytown Habitat for Humanity board in 2022.
Mark Stafford
Mark Stafford is a lifelong resident of Baytown. He served in Goose Creek CISD for 20 years as a teacher, coach, principal and administrator. He recently retired after 22 years from Second Baytown Church where he served as Associate Pastor. He brings several valuable qualities and perspectives to the Baytown Habitat for Humanity board. Being a Pastor, he has strong ties within the community, which the organization can leverage on to raise awareness about Habitat’s mission, engage volunteers, and secure local support.
Mark has used his invaluable skills in spiritual leadership, ethical guidance, conflict resolution and advocacy to spearhead our homeowner support function. Being skilled at providing emotional support and understanding, his compassionate approach has positively impacted interactions with homeowners, volunteers, and staff. With his knowledge in financial discipline and people skills, Mark ensures that decisions that the board makes align with Habitat’s values and mission.
Mark joined the Baytown Habitat Board in 2024.
Zack Clay
Zack is a Systems Administrator for the City of Mont Belvieu, keeping the City IT infrastructure up and running. He adds significant value to the Baytown Habitat for Humanity Board by providing technology oversight and ensuring the smooth operation of the organization’s IT infrastructure. By ensuring the organization is maintaining reliable technology systems, he enables efficient communication, data storage, and collaboration within the board and across the organization. Cybersecurity and Data Protection is vital in any organization these days. Protecting sensitive data is therefore critical. Zack guides the pack on security measures, conducting risk assessments and addressing vulnerabilities. His expertise helps safeguard donor information, volunteer records, and other confidential data, Prior to joining the City of Mont Belview, Zack was construction Manager for Baytown habitat for Humanity.
Zack joined the Habitat board in 2018, took a brief hiatus and now is back again. Since joining, he has built several items, including bird houses for the Baytown Habitat for Humanity Opening Doors silent auction.
Erin Porée
Erin is a real estate agent with Keller Williams Elite Realty. She began her professional career as an elementary teacher who taught 4th grade for nearly a decade prior to becoming a stay-at-home mom for 8 years and then ultimately going into real estate full time in 2021. Erin brings her market expertise, community connections, and passion for affordable housing to the Baytown Habitat for Humanity board. Her involvement strengthens the organization’s ability to create stable, affordable homes for low-income families. She is passionate about making homeownership a reality for everyone who dreams of attaining it, and keeps service and education at the center of her work.
The nature of Erin’s current portfolio enables collaborations with other organizations, businesses, and stakeholders to further our mission. Baytown Habitat for Humanity can leverage her professional network to raise awareness about Habitat's mission and impact in the community.
Greg Harwell
Greg is a dedicated tax professional, currently working for WM, a North America's leading provider of integrated environmental solutions. He is an Indirect Tax Manager, responsible for managing tax compliance, handling tax certificates, processing payments, and maintaining knowledge of tax regulations. Greg is very instrumental to Baytown Habitat maintaining its good standing as the organization needs to consistently adhere to tax laws while optimizing tax-related processes. He also ensures the organization maintains financial stability by allocating resources effectively for community development. Before joining WM, Greg worked for FEDEX as a Tax Analyst and for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts.
Greg is thrilled to be working with Baytown Habitat for Humanity, channeling his enthusiasm into making a positive impact on the community. He holds a BBA from Stephen F Austin State University.
Aida Rendon
Aida has lived experience with non-profit organizations, having been involved either as an employee or volunteer for various non-profit agencies in Baytown for 32 years. Her nonprofit experience enriches the Board dynamics, fosters professional growth, and amplifies the organization’s ability to serve its mission. Due to her in-depth knowledge of running nonprofits, Aida plays a pivotal role in the organization, offering insights beyond demographics, and contributing to more effective decision-making and program development. Her expertise helps shape programs, fundraising efforts, and community outreach initiatives. She is an active sustainer for Baytown Junior Forum, Dec my Room volunteer, and Texas Children’s Hospital volunteer.
After becoming semi-retired 4 years ago she has been occupying herself as a substitute teacher for Crosby, Dayton, and Galena Park ISD. Aida has enjoyed serving as a Baytown Habitat board member since 2019.
STAFF MEMBERS
Shelly Gondo
Executive Director
shelly.gondo@baytownhabitat.orgShelly oversees both the Executive Director and the Construction Manager functions. She leads the organization's strategic direction, operations, and management. She builds and maintains relationships with stakeholders, including donors, volunteers, and community partners, and serves as the primary spokesperson for the organization. Shelly has 3 decades’ experience both as a Construction Manager and a Strategic Project Manager. Her last role was Divisional Manager (Projects), where she managed the construction business unit of ZESA, the main power utility in Zimbabwe, her home country. In this role, she planned for and managed successful execution of national engineering projects. Before joining ZESA, Shelly was a Project Manager for Turner and Townsend Africa in Zimbabwe, where she managed design and construction of commercial construction projects there.
She holds a doctorate in Project Management and is a PMP. She is passionate about building projects and seeing communities working together.
DiAnne Wilson
Business Manager
dianne.wilson@baytownhabitat.orgDiAnne joined the Board in September 2002 as Director and Treasurer. She served the board for 5 years, overseeing and managing the financial affairs of the organization, including budgeting, financial reporting, and ensuring the proper allocation and management of funds to achieve the organization's goals and objectives. In 2007, she was hired as Baytown Habitat for Humanity’s first Executive Director, a role she held until she decided to step down and assume the Business Manager role in 2018. She has been a Business Manager for the affiliate ever since. In this role, DiAnne has a wealth of institutional memory of the organization’s history and operations since Baytown Habitat for Humanity’s inception in 1990.
She enjoys playing bridge, entertaining family, and outings with good friends in her spare time.
Larry Kovalcik
Assistant Construction Manager
Larry is a retiree from Chevron Phillips, where he worked for 25 years, up to 2015. Prior to that, he had worked for The Texas Eastern Gas Pipeline for 10 years from 1980 to 1990. He has been a member of the hardworking “Friday Crew” since he retired, and enjoys overseeing construction projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective completion, coordinating volunteers, scheduling builds, and managing materials and resources. He also assists with permit applications, inspections, and compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
Larry’s planning and organizing skills have made the worksite most enjoyable for all the volunteers who come to serve. He is a team player who is passionate about delivering quality and excellence, mentoring and developing teams, and building sustainable communities.
