Sweat equity is the time and effort you put in working with family, friends, neighbors, church members and volunteers to build Habitat homes (others and your own). It is a great learning experience and one of the most rewarding aspects of becoming a Habitat homeowner. The 500 sweat equity hours asked of potential homeowners can be contributed by all family members over the age of 16; and up to 100 hours can be donated by friends, extended family, and other volunteers.
Homeowner questionnaires are considered by the Family Selection Committee using criteria that do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, ethnicity, age, handicap, religion, marital status, or because all or part of the applicant's income is derived from public assistance programs.
To qualify, applicants must meet all the family selection criteria, must be permanent legal residents and must live or work in Baytown for a minimum of one year.
All information obtained during the family selection process is confidential and will be used only for the purposes of determining eligibility for our program. Families who are not approved during one questionnaire period may re-apply later should their circumstances change.
